Enabling Wired Controller Temperature Sensing and Display Room Temperature
UTY-RNRUZ5 Wired Remote Controller
Purpose
This procedure configures the UTY-RNRUZ5 wired remote controller to use its internal temperature sensor and display room temperature by setting Function Code 42 and Function Code 48 appropriately, followed by a system restart.
Key Concept (Bot Explanation Friendly)
-
Function Code 42 determines which temperature sensor is active
-
Function Code 48 determines how sensors are combined or selected
-
Without these settings, the system will default to the return air thermistor only
Preconditions
Before proceeding, confirm:
-
UTY-RNRUZ5 wired controller is installed and communicating
-
Installer or administrator access is available
-
Indoor unit addressing is complete
-
System is powered and not in fault
Step 1: Access Function Settings
-
From the Monitor Screen, touch Menu
-
Navigate to Maintenance
-
Enter the Installer Password
-
Select Function Setting
-
Choose the correct Indoor Unit Address if prompted
This menu allows configuration of indoor unit behavior parameters
.
Step 2: Set Function Code 42 — Enable Wired Controller Sensor
-
Locate Function Code 42
-
Set the value to 01
-
Confirm the setting
What Function Code 42 Does
-
01 = Enables the temperature sensor inside the wired controller
-
If Function 42 is not enabled, the system will:
-
Ignore the wired controller sensor
-
Use only the indoor unit return air thermistor for temperature sensing
-
This step is required anytime the wired controller is expected to sense room temperature.
Step 3: Set Function Code 48 — Select Sensor Source Logic
-
Locate Function Code 48
-
Set the value to 01
-
Confirm the setting
What Function Code 48 Does
Function Code 48 determines which sensor source is used for control logic.
-
01 = Use the wired controller thermostat only
-
Other values (model/system dependent) may allow:
-
Averaging between return air and thermostat
-
Priority selection logic
-
For applications where room-level accuracy is required, setting 01 ensures control is based strictly on the thermostat location, not the return air temperature.
Step 4: Restart the System
After setting both function codes:
-
Exit all menus
-
Restart the system by:
-
Cycling power to the indoor unit
-
Or performing system initialization per site procedure
-
A restart is mandatory for function code changes to take effect.
Step 5: Verify Operation
After restart:
-
Return to the Monitor Screen
-
Confirm Room Temperature is displayed
-
Verify the reading is reasonable for the space
If room temperature does not appear:
-
Recheck Function Codes 42 and 48
-
Confirm R.C. Sensor is enabled
-
Confirm no central controller restrictions are present
Quick Bot Summary
-
Function 42 = Enables wired controller temperature sensor
-
Without Function 42, system uses return air thermistor only
-
Function 48 = Selects which sensor controls operation
-
48 = 01 means thermostat only
-
System restart is required
Field Application Note
Using 48 = 01 is recommended when:
-
The return sensor is influenced by duct temperature
-
The controller is mounted in the true occupied space
-
Comfort complaints exist due to return air bias
